Does anybody know how to save one's favorites list, so when we get our new computer set up we don't lose everything on our old computer??? We've got a new computer, and will be setting up this weekend, but I've got loads of links in my favorites list that I don't want to lose. HELP!!!! LOL
Unfortunately our old computer is SO old (going on 7 years!) that it's completely incompatable with our new computer (a compaq presario), so any tips on linking them will not work. (Besides, we've got a couple of viruses we don't want to transfer from one to the other, so hooking one up to the other is really, really not an option.)
Help is appreciated!
Have a Blessed Day!

The only thing I can think of is to paste them into an email. That is how I took my links with me when I went to my sister's. I'll ask my computer geek bf if there is a better way though.
I concur with Whim. That is the only way i can think to move them easily.
Thanks Whim & Barb!!! Honestly, that's what I kinda thought too, but I've got so danged many links that I'm dreading the thought. And besides doing the weeding to see if those links (not all of which I use frequently) are still viable. *sigh* Guess I'd better get busy, huh??? *wry smile*
Whim's idea makes good sense.
Good luck with the switch. It's never easy, but I'm sure you'll be happy with the new machine once all the bugs are worked out.
Hey, will ya quit sending your cold weather down to us? ; )
Hey Wiz, it isn't me sending the cold weather your way, these days!!!! Gotta be somebody else!!! I swear we've had cloudy & overcast & even snow & sleet the last couple of days. Woke up to a very light blanket of the white stuff this morning. So, it's not us, we're keeping it this time around, evidently!!!! LOL
Copy the links on to a notepad document.
Save to a floppy disk or a C.D. and when you are ready to reload simply open the disk and cut copy and paste.
Thanks for the advice, ALL!! I'm just going ahead and going through my links, c&p them into an email, and emailing them back to myself. Since I only use online email systems like hotmail & yahoo, I won't lose the email when we change computers. It's tedious, but it works, so I suppose that's what matters. Gotta get to work as DH wants to do the set-up this evening. Thanks again for the tips!!
Hey Kati the following is from my BF:
In Internet Explorer, from the main menu, select File and then select Import and Export. Then choose Export Favorites from the list. Save the file anywhere, or email it to yourself. When your new pc is ready, do the same thing only choose Import Favorites, and point it to the file you exported. Note: If you don't have a main menu on your IE interface, right click somewhere on the toolbar and select Menu Bar from the pop up.
In Firefox, the process is much the same, only you have to select Bookmarks/Organize Bookmarks from the main menu, and then select File/Import and Export from the Organize Bookmarks menu.
When we got a new computer I think I emailed them to myself too. Also if you put them in a text file you can print them out. It will mean re doing them by hand in the new computer but at lest you wont lose the information.
Good luck
